Joseph Devine asked:

Have you ever been driving down the road and suddenly your car slams into a pothole? If the pothole was shallow, then you feel as if you have just taken a tumble within your car. If you’re unlucky and the pothole was deep and wide, your car might sustain heavy damage to the suspension and you might even be involved in a car accident. What is the cause of a pothole and why are there so many of them on the road?

The Creation of the Pothole

A pothole is a type of defect on the surface of the road where a part of the road has deteriorated due to weathering and time. Over time, ice can make a pothole bigger and deeper as the pavement expands with temperature change. The pothole absorbs water, then when it becomes cold enough, the water will freeze, making the cracks in the pavement larger. Then, when warmer temperatures arrive, the ice thaws, leaving the pothole bigger and deeper. These potholes represent a great risk to drivers on the road and to pedestrians because they are often large, deep holes that people must traverse over. Potholes start with small cracks. These cracks progress over time with fatigue and become cracked in a pattern known as “alligator cracking”. Cars carrying heavy loads then driver over these cracks and create holes by knocking pavement out, creating what we know as a pothole.

Potholes and why they are dangerous

Potholes are dangerous because it makes defects in the road that people drive over. These defects cause the road to become uneven and unwieldy to drive upon. Potholes can cause damage to you and your car if you are driving over them at high speeds. It is rather easy to miss a pothole, especially when it is dark and potholes are less visible. Or it is often hard to avoid a pothole during inclement weather. If it is cold, potholes can be filled with snow, causing them to be filled up and hidden from view. Drivers can therefore drive over these potholes at high speeds and be completely taken aback by the initial shock. Even a shallow pothole can cause damage to your tires and suspension and cause an accident if the car becomes stalled within the pothole.

[air suspension]

Sue And Chuck DeFiore asked:

It amazes me, how often during a week, I hear “It’s not my fault, it’s not my responsibility”. It seems that in today’s society no one wants to take responsibility for anything. Parents don’t or won’t take the responsibility of how their children turn out. It’s the daycare’s fault, the school’s fault, the college’s fault, the cop’s fault, … you get the picture. As far as children go today, newsflash parents, “It is your fault.” They are your children, not the daycare’s or the schools. It is your responsibility to be sure that they get to school, that they learn in school, and what they do after school. That means paying attention to what your children are doing. Taking an interest in the homework they have, and if they don’t have any, giving them some. Monitoring what kind of music they listen to, what they watch on television, what kind of movies they watch, and the video games they play. Teaching them the difference between reality and imaginary ideas, people and things. Television and video games are not baby-sitters, and neither is the school system. Your children are your responsibility, and in all honesty if you don’t have the time to spend with your children, then don’t have them. I fully realize that both parents have to work today because of the cost of things. However, there are parents raising children who are aware of what their children are doing, spend time with them, and instill in them ethics, morals and values so that their children can become productive adults. Unfortunately, these parents appear to be few and far between. Teachers, your job is to teach our children. The crying about class size doesn’t cut it. When I attended school we had a minimum of 30 students in most classes, and teachers taught and we all passed our Regents exams before graduating high school. Unfortunately, while I was in college I could see the writing on the wall already regarding our education system. Those who were going into teaching only had to pass/fail classes such as psychology, sociology, and learning theory classes; and they couldn’t even do that. Our education system has gone downhill since the mid 70′s. Yes, there are still some good teachers out there, those in their 40′s and up. However, we have teachers today that can’t read and write, so how can we expect them to teach our children to do so. Some of the teachers today are afraid of being tested on a yearly basis, and many of them should be, because they would not pass. The standards for testing today are a joke. I would love to give a Regents Exam test from a high school in the 50′s, 60′s, and even early 70′s. Both the students and the teachers today wouldn’t pass. I know I am making a lot of people angry, and you should be. The fault lies with our educational system. It has disintegrated over the years. Too many other factors have come into play in our school system. This is something that should not have happened. In order to get good teachers, children and parents have to respect them, and unfortunately today that is not the case. When I was attending school, we respected our teachers and our principals. Suspension was a punishment and an embarrassment, both to ourselves and our parents. Teachers were allowed to reprimand students. They didn’t have to worry about student rights, students self esteem, etc. When we start respecting our teachers again, let them teach and not worry about being politically correct, and pay them a salary they can live on we will get the better educated to teach our children. In addition, parents look at teachers as their baby-sitters, and expect them not only to educate their child but to help raise them. Parents you have a responsibility to your child and to the teacher. You have to respect the teacher and support them, not fight them. So many of the problems today both with parenting and teaching is the way society and government put handcuffs on both. Parents can’t even hit their children today without the threat of being a child abuser and being carted off the jail, court or worse. Discipline is not abuse, and I believe that discipline is sorely needed. I am not advocating child abuse, however, you cannot reason with a 2 year old sticking their finger in a wall socket. A firm no, with a slight slap of the hand works wonders. I am amazed at what children get away with today. However, they get away with these things, because parents let them. Over the years we’ve let government, vocal parental groups, legislators and the legal system dictate how we raise our children. Why? Because then we can use the mantra, “It’s not my fault, it’s not my responsibility”. People today are to quick to abdicate responsibility to everyone but themselves. One of the biggest problems are all the frivolous lawsuits out there. Children taking their parents to court. Parents suing companies because of hot coffee, a hot pickle. These cases get too much attention and unbelievably juries that give out awards. The media perpetuates many of the problems today. By focusing so much attention on the people that do harm to others, more individuals out there figure if they want attention they need to do the same. This becomes a vicious cycle, and teaches our children the wrong way to accomplish things. So, how do we fix it. We all take responsibility for our actions. We don’t abdicate our responsibility. We admit we are human, we make mistakes, and move forward from there. Try and I mean really try not to make the same mistakes over and over. But most important of all, take the responsibility for
your own screw ups and don’t put the blame on anyone else.
Kevin Gann asked:

It’s likely that you’re already familiar with MySQL, the open source software program that allows you to create, maintain, and manage relational databases. After all, it is by far the most popular of all the database management systems designed especially for internet content. MySQL is used by nearly all the biggest names on the web (i.e., Google, YouTube, Wikipedia, Facebook) thanks to its reliability and convenience. High-traffic websites, new start-ups, personal sites, informational resources– most websites rely on MySQL for comprehensive storage of important data such as user info, indices, and recent activity. If you’ve ever needed to organize data pertaining to your, your company’s, and/or your client’s website, you’ve probably researched and utilized this software to accomplish the task.

Chances are though that you aren’t yet familiar with a lot of the pertinent software offered to help make your MySQL far more pleasant. Of particular interest are those programs designed to both automatically backup and restore your MySQL database. They make the time- and labor-intensive process of backing up data more streamlined. Whether your website is a one-man venture or multi-million dollar operation, this can free up a lot of time and funds better spent elsewhere. On a more basic level, this automatic backup also means less worrying. If something goes wrong (say, for example, your MySQL server dies or a table crashes), you know everything will make it. Restoring the website and database should even take less time; this means your visitors aren’t detracted from your page a second longer than necessary. It allows your business to grow while also guaranteeing that all-too-common issues like excessive downtime and permanent data loss don’t damage its reputation.

A quality automatic MySQL backup program will offer the following basic features: compatibility with all operating systems, support for all MySQL character sets, store engines, and field and table types, ability to backup data to SQL files, PHP files, different servers, or different databases, and an easy-to-use interface. Typically, a software program intended to automatically backup and restore MySQL databases is a self-contained utility. When you initially run it, you’ll be presented with a simple set-up wizard to guide you through choosing presets and schedules. Any program worth its salt will allow you to set up multiple tasks for varying degrees of backup. Tasks may be added, edited, or deleted at any time with an equally minimal amount of effort and hassle. Once you’ve set things up, the program will live up to its description as “automatic.” This is in definite contrast to the labor involved with routine, manual backups. The software will follow your instructions, reliably and without folly.

You should also, with a good program, be able to disable an automatic shutdown, log off, or suspension from occurring while the operation is being performed so as to avoid disruption. Furthermore, make sure the software you choose offers an e-mail alert in the rare case that an error happens or a task fails. Regarding failure, by the way, a good program will be just as automatic in the restoration of the database in the instance of any problem with your MySQL server. Automatic restoration is set up and enabled with tasks-just like automatic backup.

Many of the options available offer both a regular and professional version. Software available in this dual format is typically more developed, secure, and stable. The basic software will offer all the key functions while the professional versions tend to pack more features, more punch, and run more smoothly on newer operating systems.

Regardless of which version you choose, you’ll be progressing towards an ever better website by making the investment in such complementary MySQL software. Think about it-how often do you follow routine maintenance schedules (be it for MySQL, your hard drive, or even your car) to a tee? By eliminating the bother, risk, and time usually required by such tasks, you can devote more time to expanding your site or actually enjoying the profits garnered from it.

[Car Accessories]

David Jaffe asked:

Priorities are a concept that Americans (and the world in general) seem to be rather clueless about.

We live in a world where we watched with bated breath while dozens of Iranians died in the fight for their freedom. Well, we did… until Michael Jackson died, of course. Now it feels like Iran fell off the map.

I once watched a 6th grade class about a section of the Bible. They discussed all sorts of interesting scenarios and the laws that might follow. In order to make the classes more fun and memorable for the students the teacher tried to make the scenarios as visual and wild as possible.

One case involved a man who was entrusted to watch over his neighbor’s cocker spaniel. One day as he was sitting there watching the pooch, a lion which had escaped from the local zoo jumped through the window and ate the dog. (The question at hand was whether or not the dog’s watcher was held responsible for its death.)

The students cried out in horror. They were completely freaked out by the example given.

The teacher inquired as to why they were so freaked out now as opposed to all the other crazy scenarios he had created:

Them: How can you speak of a dog getting killed?

Him: Hold on. We’ve been doing scenarios for weeks now. When we spoke about humans getting murdered, nobody got upset about it.

Them: But most of us have dogs!

Him: (In disbelief) And none of you have parents, siblings, friends!?!

And no matter how much they discussed this, they did not get why this irked their teacher.

And judging by some of the research out there, whoever is reading this right now also might not understand either.

But I digress…

This article is really a continuation from my previous article about a new employer who wishes to hop into a new scenario and strip everything away to rebuild things from scratch.

When the new boss-man decides things need to change, his next step is (or at least should be) to prioritize.

My mental picture is the new CEO who makes the list of everything he feels needs to be improved upon, and one of the things on his list is his dislike of the company’s staplers.

So he spends two hours on the internet researching in order to find out which are the best staplers out there.

Then he spends a half hour on the phone with a sales rep trying to finalize the company’s purchase of the staplers.

Later he will have a 45-minute meeting with his staff to discuss the new staplers, culminating in everyone signing a form upon the receipt of their new stapler stating they are personally responsible if their new stapler is lost or damaged.

And also culminating in a staff of people wondering why the company hired this bozo.

This might sound like an overly exaggerated scenario…

That is, of course, unless I’m describing someone you are either employed to, or were employed to in the past.

This example from my life still makes me laugh. I was once the employee of a brand new principal who made a semi-arbitrary new rule that on a specific monthly holiday all students were required to wear white shirts.

In theory it was a nice and respectful idea.

In practice:

a. Kids make mistakes

b. It’s only an OK idea

c. Might be nice to focus your attention on slightly more important issues when starting in such a position

So the first holiday rolled around. Probably a dozen or more students forgot about the whole white shirt thing.

No big deal, right?

He made them sit in an in-school suspension until a parent, who was probably busy at work, was able to go to the school and bring them a white shirt. Some students missed half their classes that day!

Everyone, as you can imagine, was very angry at the principal.

But did he stop there? No way. Months later, same deal. Several students forget, several students suspended, several parents peeved.

And when all the smoke clears, what do we have? Tons of frustrated students, who in no way appreciate the policy (and laugh at the principal behind his back). Scores of really ticked off parents, who in no way appreciate the policy (and laugh at the principal behind his back). A bunch of frustrated teachers wondering why their students are missing class to sit in the principal’s office. And: No improvement in the memory of students vis-a-vis their white shirts.

And for what!?!? What if he had succeeded? Big deal! This was objectively as unimportant of an issue as one could imagine. It wasn’t even in the galaxy of what this man should have been focusing his time and attention upon. And he didn’t get it. And I’m not sure if has yet figured this one out.

You’re in a new leadership position and want to make some changes? Fine. It’s going to be a lot of work. Figure out what are the main issues you would like to work on, and for now let everything else go.

And for God’s sake, try and look very closely and objectively at what should have never been focused on in the first place.

[lincoln navigator]

Jason Averill asked:

Most states require you to have an automobile insurance card in your vehicle while it is being operated. In some states the proof of insurance is done at the registry and no card is required. In New Hampshire and Wisconsin no auto insurance is required at all. The card itself should have your name, policy number, and the contact information for the automobile insurance company.

The auto insurance card is an important document and you should request one even if your state does not require one. In Massachusetts there is no requirement to carry an insurance card, but if you live in MA and plan to drive through a state that requires you have one it is better to have it than not.

The penalty for not having proof of insurance can range from a ticket, which is a moving violation and will raise your insurance premiums, to license suspension. In Florida, for instance, they can suspend your license for up to three years or until you get insurance and pay a re-instatement fee which can be up to five-hundred dollars.

As you can see having the proof of insurance card with you is very important in order to stay out of trouble. If you bought your automobile insurance online you are better off in case of a lost or stolen card.

By purchasing your auto insurance online not only will you save a bunch of money you will also cut down on the inconvenience of not having an automobile insurance card if you lose yours. The cards can be downloaded and printed at any time of the day or night.

Replacing your lost insurance card is not the only benefit to shopping for auto insurance online. By purchasing your car insurance online you will have access to all of your insurance documents at any time of the day or night.

[suspension parts]

John Joseph Flood asked:

The articles about backing a big rig into a small space are so very important to every driver. Once you know how to make a truck go straight then that part becomes easy. When it comes to backing then it gets a little hairy. If you’re already a driver you are used to it and probably didn’t think much of it. Think back to the first time you got in the truck to back it up.

How far do you spin your wheel when you start backing What do you do when there is a tractor on both sides when you are backing into a tight spot How do you handle it when there isn’t enough room to get the truck in straight

Now those are some tough questions that you’ll make the final decision about. Here are some pointers that I use. If it is just too tight then you will probably be better off to wait. Some warehouses only have a few loaders working anyway so they are going to get to you any faster if you back in right away or wait until the door opens.

If there is enough room that you can pull forward enough to get the tractor and trailer straight then it is real simple to back in and you should go ahead and do that. You will be able to relax and get some rest and you will also avoid some other driver jumping in line and taking your place at the door.

The tractor on both sides of you can make some drivers very nervous. Think about how long it will take to call police, your company, and the other driver’s company and then wait until the insurance companies get involved. Don’t be shy about getting out of your truck and look to see how you are doing. I personally don’t like to listen to others on the CB when backing because if you hit them it is still your fault. Be careful check out the area behind and take your time because it will save you time in the long run.

I went to this warehouse in Southern California to pick up a load and the dock was full of container trailers. You know the ones that are loaded on to ships. The lot was packed and there was absolutely no way to get the tractor lined up in any good position. I tried and tried and when I finally got the trailer into the hole my legs were shaking from pushing the clutch so much.

When it was all said and done the load I was picking up was in another warehouse on a different street. There was so much room at that dock that I had nothing to line my trailer on and that sometimes is worse than having to tight of a spot. It was a bad day.

All you can do is practice, take your time, don’t get nervous and get out and look.

[used nissan]

Alan D Davis asked:

Now that it’s officially winter many folks have hung up the bike(s) and are concentrating on activities that can take place inside – and that’s really not such a bad thing. I wrote an article not too long ago where I encouraged the reader to look at winter as an opportunity to take a little time away from the bike. For many, it’s been a long cycling season and you are tired both physically and mentally. Spending a few months in the gym lifting weights, doing some plyometrics or even pilates/yoga is a great way to work on those areas that cycling neglects and to stretch those muscles that cycling shortens. And if you just can’t live for 4 months without turning the pedals, but it’s just too cold to get outside there are alternatives there as well – an indoor trainer or spinning classes will satisfy that urge (I prefer the spinning classes as I tend to get bored easily and need the camaraderie of group exercise).

However, for those who are fortunate to live in the warmer regions of the country as I do, there is always Urban Night Riding. So, exactly what is that? My friends and I do a weekly ride of 40-45 miles every Tuesday night all done on pavement in both neighborhoods and downtown (we live in a city of 1+ million). It’s a good mix of hills, short intervals (20+ mph) and long straight stretches done at tempo (18-20mph). The thing that makes this a really good workout is that we do this ride on full suspension mountain bikes complete with knobby tires run at 35 psi.

There are a few tips that we’ve learned along the way that may differ a bit from traditional road cycling and/or mountain biking:

1. Wear bright/reflective clothes – of course this is a good tip any time you ride after dark, but it’s especially important when you are riding on city streets. Also, don’t forget that unlike those morning rides where you can usually count on it warming up, the temperature on these rides is going to get colder as the night progresses so I usually stuff another layer in my pocket.

2. Use a front and rear blinkie light – you would think this would be a no-brainer, however I’m still amazed at the number of riders I see after dark with neither. I use the brightest rear blinkie I can find on my seatpost and then I use a smaller light that I clip to the back of my helmet on the adjusting strap. For the front, bright is good, but bright and flashing is better. I used to ride with my super bright HID light (600 lumens), but I’ve since converted to a smaller, but still bright (200 lumens) LED because it has a flash capability. The human eye is designed to detect movement so I’ll sacrifice a little brightness, however I strongly recommend you purchase a good, rechargeable light that throws a wide pattern. I’ve tried the smaller (and cheaper) 4 AA lights, but these tend to do a better of job of making you seen vs. allowing you to see the road ahead of you – and both are important on these rides.

3. Ride in a group – again that safety thing. Many blinking lights are easier to see than one (or none!). Also, if someone has a flat or breaks a bike part you have some help (also, another light source as it’s tough to get your bar light to shine on your rear derailleur!)

4. No drop policy – speaking of riding in a group, it’s important to hook up with other riders of similar skill as night rides should absolutely, positively be “no drop” rides. Heh, it’s dark out there!

5. Don’t challenge the buses!!! – they are much bigger than you are. Seriously, riding downtown in traffic should not be taken lightly. You need to be super vigilant as not only is there apt to be more traffic, but there are also many more distractions – for both you and the drivers.

Urban Night Riding can be a great addition to your off season training routine. It’s different enough from both traditional road riding and mountain biking so that you get the break you need, but it can also be very challenging – trust me on this one. The dark and the traffic deserve some additional respect, but with the right equipment and attention you can have a great ride all winter long.

[suspension parts]

Holcy Thompson III asked:

Paying child support is a tremendous responsibility. The payments that are made are distribute to the custodial parents to ensure that their children have what they need to live a comfortable life. There are many cases today being open for establishing child support so the custodial parents may receive assistance from the non-custodial parent in supporting their child/children. There are several things you must do as a custodial parent before you receive child support payments. One, you must establish child support, second, you must locate the non-custodial parent, and if the non-custodial parent refuses to acknowledge the child you must have a paternity test performed. If the non-custodial parent refuses to pay child support once they are determined to be the biological father, then the court will use several method to enforce child support payments. Child support laws have slight differences from state to state, but one similarity that all 50 states do have is that child support must be paid by the non-custodial parent or they may face consequences.

When establishing child support the custodial parents must fill out a applications. When filling out this applications, you must provide as much information about you and the non-custodial parent. Information such as the non-custodial parent’s first and last name, social security number, and date of birth. If the custodial parent is receiving any type of assistance from the state or federal government, the application fee may be waived. In some states the child support application fee can run up to twenty five dollars.

Before child support can be awarded, the custodial parent must have the non-custodial parent found. There are several methods used in locating the non-custodial parent. If the custodial parent provides the local child support court office with the social security number of the non-custodial parent, then that would be able to track them down when they are hired at a new job. Providing information about the non-custodial parents friends and family may also prove useful when tracking down the missing parents. Once the parent is located, the local county sheriff will stop by their residence and provide them with child support orders which they would have to sign. The child support orders inform the non-custodial parents that they are being sued for child support and must attend a mandatory court hearing to determine if they are responsible for child support payments and how much they are going to have to pay.

Paternity testing is the procedure where a small bodily fluid sample is extracted from the alleged father and child and a testing is done to see if the samples of fluid are a match. Once the non-custodial parent has been located and summoned to court, the child support administer will ask if a paternity test is necessary. A test would be automatically performed if the non-custodial parent refuses to acknowledge the child/children. Paternity testing is done by taking DNA sample (saliva) of the father and child to see if there is a 99.9% match. Only then will the non-custodial parent be responsible for making child support payments. After the test is done and the samples are taken, you may want to give it two to four weeks before you get any results back. If the father does acknowledge that he is the father, he may sign the birth certificate at the hospital at the time of birth or he can sign a statutory declaration of acknowledgement form. You will need to hire your own lawyer to have any paternity testing performed.

Soon after child support is established and the biological father is acknowledged, the court will order the non-custodial parent to make timely child support payments. If the non-custodial parent refuses to make those payments, the child support enforcement office will be force to use methods in order to motivate the parent to pay. These methods are slightly different from state to state. Most of these methods include passport denial, license suspensions, including driver’s, professional and recreational, tax refund interceptions, and sometimes federal prosecution. In the United States there are many child support evaders who will go out of there way to avoid paying child support. These people must be found and prosecuted for not living up to their obligations.

Paying child support can be difficult sometimes, especially if you are laid off from a job or receive a deduction in pay. In most states child support orders are reviewed once every three years to see if modifications are necessary. Child support modifications can also be requested by either the custodial or the non-custodial parent. If a non-custodial parent loses their job or is not making the money that they were making, they can request to have their child support payment reduce. However, if the non-custodial parents receives a promotion and is making a lot more money than before, the custodial parent is able to request modifications to increase the child support payments. Modifications are performed and executed depending on the lifestyle of either parent.

Children are often victims of illness, that is why health insurance is provide for most. In most states in America, when a non-custodial parent is ordered to pay child support they are also responsible for providing health insurance for the child/children. In other states both parents are responsible for providing medial insurance for the child/children. If a non-custodial parent is ordered to pay health benefits for the child/children, it will automatically be garnished for their wages.

Child Support in some states end when the child is 18 years of age are when they graduate from high school, which ever happens last. Some states the child would have to be 19 years of age before any payments are ceased. Child support payments may also be terminated if the child is emancipated form the parents. Once the child reaches the appropriate age, child support payments will not end if there are any arrears that are remaining.

[used infiniti]

Karen Chai asked:

The truth is always difficult to find these days which makes us compromise often in letting our hearts trust enough to keep the relationship going. To trust is very difficult because ultimately we fear being made use of, cheated, lied to and taken for granted in almost any relationship. Some people even spend on acquiring thoughtful evidences. However, the composition of the whole truth can be way too sophisticated beyond scope of sight. Nevertheless, being able to trust liberates us from a lot of self-inflicted pain and suffering. Trusting is the hardest virtue and it is the way to generate honesty and faith among people.

How can we trust somebody when there are so many things that we are unsure of? First is to identify clear boundaries in between the relationship to ensure we do not cross borders of other people privacy or rights. The scope of the boundary is subject to differences between different people. Whenever we start crossing the line, the other party will start to build hostility, defense and anger causing further misunderstandings or stressful pressure. The relationship breaks and the precious elements of trust will be gone leaving rooms only for mechanical works or other forms of masked behaviors for future days to come. Even close relationships might not mend easily.

Trust usually pairs with disappointments when you finally learn about something(s) ugly in life. However, it is better to get yourself prepared to know the worst possible amount of truth that can be. Live life by calculating acceptable frameworks of risks thereby allowing a free will to trust knowing that you are not going to forsake the most important things in life. For example, if hard earned money is your top most priority, by all means do not trust even your friends for lending unless absolutely necessary. This way, you minimize the possibilities of disappointments which is going to trade off that precious trusting heart once forsaken by chance.

It is also crucial to go without prejudice or discrimination against anyone or anything of concern when you are working out on something. Everyone deserves a fair chance to learn by their own mistakes or shortcomings. To trust one another to be able to work things out is a very important step towards building a community that fears not of failure but strives along adversities with bonded synergy or positive energy. Let trust despite failing on all parties of concern because, from the very beginning everyone happens to share the same amount of risk. By trusting, the chances of getting at least something out of nothing is more than not trusting which bears only painful grudges, termination and suspension.

The ability to trust is essential for our living because without it, our hearts are closed without any openings. It means we are forever living on our own with no real friends to keep us going in life for the good and bad times. Learn at least to trust yourself to trust others by defining a set of affordable mistakes or risks in life that you are willing to take. After all, one can never live fully without experiencing mistakes or failures. One have never lived, if he never did trust with his/her heart.

[cars lincoln]
